Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.)
This is the process by which non-Catholic adults become Catholic. It is a
journey of conversion which concentrates on the total formation of the
individual - in doctrine, prayer and faith-sharing, scripture, liturgy and
ritual, and apostolic service.
Those preparing for initiation are invited to deepen their awareness of God's
grace in their lives, and to prepare for living as full members of the parish
church community. The process is divided into four basic stages or "periods".
Each period has its own special character and content, and concludes with a
major liturgical celebration or "Rite". While the entire parish community
participates in the rites, praying with and for the candidates, the periods are
conducted by the pastor and a team of parishioners who support him/her in this
very important evangelization effort.
